About the College
Government Degree College Sihunta is beautifully positioned between two mountain ranges: Hathidhar, an offshoot of the lower Shivalik Hills, and Dhauladhar, part of the lower Himalayas. While Sihunta is located in District Chamba, it serves as a cultural and geographical bridge between Kangra and Chamba. The college primarily aims to provide higher education to the local community and Bhattiyat Tehsil, notably focusing on female students who consistently outnumber their male counterparts.
Established in 2016, Government Degree College Sihunta is currently operating from the Government (Girls) High School Sihunta building. From its inaugural session to the 2023-24 academic year, the college has seen impressive enrollment numbers, with 373 students registered in the most recent session. Efforts are underway to identify and acquire suitable land for constructing a dedicated college building, with completion expected soon.
The college offers two streams: Arts and Commerce, both supported by qualified and ample teaching staff. The institution maintains a well-stocked library, continually expanding its collection of books and current magazines. To further benefit students, more classes in General Studies and Reasoning Ability were conducted in the previous academic session to aid in competitive exam preparation. Opportunities for cultural, sports, and other co-curricular activities are also actively promoted. The institution is dedicated to contributing to society through various initiatives, including National Service Scheme (NSS), the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and the Red Ribbon Club (RRC). Government Degree College Sihunta remains committed to fostering a sense of curiosity and creativity among its students, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
